Basic Tart Dough Recipe

This recipe is for the dough base to make a tart shell.

Serves: 1 tart shell
Ingredients
  • ¼ Cup Sugar (50 grams/2oz.)
  • 9 Tablespoons Butter, room temperature (125 grams or 1 stick plus 1 Tbsp (4.4 oz.)
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1-2/3 Cups All-Purpose Flour (200 grams / 7oz.)
Instructions
  1. Measure out all ingredients.
  2. Add butter and sugar to the mixer bowl and cream together.
  3. Add the egg and the vanilla extract. Incorporate and scrape down the bowl to ensure everything is well mixed.
  4. Add in the flour and mix until incorporated, about 30 seconds.
  5. Turn out the dough onto a piece of plastic wrap, form a disc and wrap well. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to chill.
Notes
This dough may be made 4 or 5 days before you need it and stored in the refrigerator.
