Simple syrups are used when you want to bring added moisture to a cake. Some cakes tend to be dry and can use a little moisture picker upper. This is my go to syrup. It is not as sweet as most traditional simple syrups out there, but it works great with my cakes.

Serves: 3 cups
Ingredients
  • 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 3 Cups Water
Instructions
  1. Add sugar and water to a saucepan.
  2. Place on the stove on high heat and stir to until occasionally.
  3. Once the mixture comes to a boil, all it to boil for 30 seconds then turn off and heat and allow to come to room temperature.
  4. If you want to add a flavoring to your syrup add it once you remove it from the stove to cool down. Add flavoring to taste.
  5. Use when cool.
Notes
Simple syrups can be sweeter if you desire. You can easily go up to 2 parts sugar to 1 part water and follow the same recipe.

If you want to add additional flavors to your syrups, you can use flavoring extracts, alcohols such as Creme de Mint, a flavors Schnapps or even a flavor brandy to taste.

Store in the refrigerator for up to a month.
